Bubble Curtains to Block Plastic Waste in Paris
The Project
In preparation of the 2024 summer Olympics in Paris, the First permanent Bubble Curtain against plastic debris in France has been installed using our Bubble Tubing® technology. Part of The Searial Cleaners a clean tech range, The Invisibubble is a complete system aiding in the fight against plastic waste in aquatic environments.
The Paris canal services installed the Invisibubble Powered by Bubble Tubing® to deflect floating plastic debris in the Ourcq Canal near the Crimée Bridge. This location was chosen as it’s upstream from the Villette bassin, allowing the city to remove debris from the canal near the Park of Nations where Canada and France will have their olympic houses.
The InvisiBubble bubble curtain is made by installing our linear Bubble Tubing® diffuser along the bottom of the canal thus cover the entire width of the waterway. The consistent flow of bubbles up to the surface upwells debris from the entire water column to the surface, where the natural current and the angled design of the curtain guides the debris towards the collection point.
For this project, debris is collected weekly by a specialized boat and measure by the Paris Canal Services. Learn more about how Bubble Tubing® helps control plastic debris in this animation!

This non-invasive solution does not disrupt river navigation and fauna. It does not cause visual or noise pollution as well.
The curtain was put in place with the following goals :
Regroup the floating debris to facilitate the collect at one place and prevent them from moving downstream of the canal.
Reduce invasive species proliferation by collecting the floating invasive plant debris and preventing them from spreading in other canals.
Increase oxygenation of the canal to reduce risk of asphyxiation.
