Discover the Future of Marine Aquaculture with Bubble Tubing® Upwelling Technologies

Climate change poses a significant threat to marine aquaculture, with rising surface water temperatures leading to metabolic distress and mass mortality of fish. However, a groundbreaking solution is now available. CanadianPond’s innovative upwelling systems, SalmoAir® and OctoAir-60 that uses Bubble Tubing® technology, have been rigorously tested to control water temperature and improve fish health conditions.

Upwelling, a process where deeper, colder water is brought to the surface, offers a tested method to provide thermal mixing and circulation of oxygen and nutrient-rich water. This technology not only helps in summer by cooling the water but also in winter by preventing ice formation and promoting fish growth.

Recent field trials conducted at Holyrood Bay have shown impressive results. SalmoAir® and OctoAir-60 have demonstrated their ability to significantly increase upwelling rates. The trials also revealed that the systems effectively lift cold water to the surface, enhancing dissolved oxygen levels and creating favorable conditions for marine life.

The study highlights the potential of these systems to revolutionize marine aquaculture, providing a basis for selecting the number and type of diffusers required for optimal upwelling within fish cages. Future research will focus on integrating these systems with fish cages, studying their effects on fish health, and developing real-time monitoring systems.
