Bubble Tubing®: 20 Years of Innovation and Success
In 2025, Bubble Tubing® celebrates its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of innovation and success in water management. Since its inception, Bubble Tubing® has revolutionized the way we approach water management’s various environmental challenges. Let’s look back at the history and applications of Bubble Tubing®.
The Beginnings of Bubble Tubing®
Bubble Tubing® was developed to address a crucial need: water aeration. In 2005, Mario Paris, the founder of Canadian Pond.ca Products Ltd., developed a hose capable of diffusing fine air bubbles into water linearly, thereby improving water quality by increasing dissolved oxygen levels. This technology quickly found applications in the wastewater treatment market, aquaculture, and pond and lake management. At that time, there were no durable options available on the market, and the materials used to construct those diffusers were not suitable for aquatic environments. Having no suitable options on the market, Mr. Paris decided to develop an environmentally friendly linear diffuser that would create fine bubbles to optimize oxygen, prevent biofouling and was a long-lasting product. Starting with only one format, Bubble Tubing® is now offered in 4 different size diameters (1/2’’, ¾’’, 1’’, 1.25’’) which are offered with different ballast options. 8 options total!
Overall, the results obtained for Bubble Tubing® are excellent and offer some of the highest oxygen transfers that GSEE has observed. -Gerald Shell, GSEE Inc.
A few years after the development of Bubble Tubing® technology, tests conducted by none other than Gerald Shell , the inventor of the mathematical formula for calculating oxygen transfer in water, validated Bubble Tubing® diffusers oxygen transfer capabilities. This first foray into research and development, proved Bubble Tubing®’s excellent Standard Oxygen Transfer Rate (SOTR).

Evolution Towards De-icing
In 2007, 2 years after the birth of Bubble Tubing®, requests from clients pushed us to develop a larger diameter tube designed for deicing. This option was better suited to service industrial deicing projects across Canada. By diffusing air bubbles from the bottom of the water, the linear hose prevents ice formation, which is particularly useful in ports, marinas, and industrial facilities located in cold regions. This application has helped reduce maintenance costs and improve winter safety for a variety of Nordic industries. In 2019, CPP continued to improve its deicing capabilities by investing in R&D validated CFD (computer fluid dynamics) models allowing our team to predict ice behavior based on on-site parameters and each client’s specific situation. CanadianPond.ca is the first to offer this type of service and remains pioneers and experts in industrial de-icing.

The Multiple Applications of Bubble Curtains
In 2010, CPP already had exploratory requests from clients wanting to use the linear air diffuser as a natural barrier. At that time, CPP didn’t know that Bubble Tubing® would soon prove itself as the most efficient and reliable bubble curtain diffuser on the market.
Bubble curtains produce a natural barrier of bubbles that rise from the depths creating an upward current around the diffuser. Bubble barriers have been adopted by a variety of industries to protect the environment as well as improve and protect their operations. Learn more about bubble curtains by Bubble Tubing® through these applications and associated projects:
- Underwater Sound Attenuation
- Sediment & Silt control
- Control of Toxic Algae & Jellyfish
- Oil Spill Management
- Control of Plastic Debris
After 20 years, Bubble Tubing® continues to showcase the remarkable innovations possible using bubble curtains. Continued investment in research and development ensure that its product will always be at the forefront of bubble curtain technologies. Learn more about four bubble curtain projects using Bubble Tubing®:
- Bubble Curtain for sound attenuation in Cacouna, Quebec
- A first in Scotland! Bubble curtain installed at Mowi using Bubble Tubing®
- Bubble Curtains to Block Plastic Waste in Paris
- Control of invassive species in lake Tahoe
